Students in third grade learn the basic tenants of keyboard. The driving force behind this unit was the notion that every child loves to go to a piano and make...noise? I want my students to go to a piano and make MUSIC! Students learned how to identify middle C, use proper hand position at a piano, perform a song they know from audition. Students also learn how
  • to play basic melodies
  • add a tonic chord root harmony
  • add tonic and dominant chord roots harmony
  • and improvise melodies over chord roots

An added lesson of our keyboard unit is the life lesson of perseverance! Students learned that it takes time, patience and practice to master the skill of playing piano!
